Book Printing In The Digital Age
by: Florie Lyn Masarate
Book printing is one of your most important expenses that any publisher is ever going to make in his or her career.
It is common knowledge that not all of these publishers have enough resources to cater to their printing needs.
And of course, they do not want to lessen the impact of their books just because of the printing process used.
Digital printing is the technology now. Digital printing makes sense for small publishers. Most industry experts do not see this trend coming from large publishers. They are seen most prominently with small and self publishers who can afford to print and market their books on their own.
With the way things are going, it seems that more digital book printing services will be available in the future. This will give the self publisher even more choices. It will eventually drive the cost down too.
Short run digital technology for black and white digital book printing has been around for a while now. The original ?docutech? technology was designed for one purpose and that is to produce short run black and white books economically.
On the other hand, while there have been digital color presses on the market for some time now, their original intent was more of a commercial nature like ad sheets, postcards, etc. But not for digital book printers.
The full color digital printing presses have come to the point that full and four color printing is now possible. Digital book covers have been printed successfully for quite some time too.
Another advantage to digital printing is that you can use it for very short print runs. For example, if you want professional looking galleys to send to reviewers, you can print them digitally quickly and easily. Even if the entire book is not printed digitally, your galleys will look better and more professional if you print them this way.
It can be noted, however, that there is no real quantity discount when it comes to digital printing presses. Your unit cost stays more or less the same no matter what quantity you print. This will be great if you want a small number of copies. But if you want to make several thousand copies, It would not appear that great.
Besides, digital printing is generally more expensive than offset in quantities over 400. That is why many are opting to have their own digital printers at home to cater to these small needs.

It is given that you buy cartridges from the printer manufacturers to ensure good quality. But then, are they making the papers too? The companies you buy other printer need to buy their paper from another company. Then they put their name on it.
Chances are that the exact same paper can be found under another name. If your printer uses a special ink, there might be advantages to using a manufacturer's brand of paper.
Remember that another brand will not hurt your printer. And it could be a lot cheaper. What are some considerations when choosing a printing paper?
Different purposes. The kind of paper you use can affect how your document will appear like. When you are printing important documents, best use inkjet or laser-specific paper.

Factors Affecting Color Accuracy
Factors Affecting Color Accuracy
by: Florie Lyn Masarate
Color is one of the most difficult parts of a design to show accurately to a customer. The reason behind this is because color perception is affected by many factors. Many people and printers are aware of this fact that is why they know how to closely monitor the factors to help get more accurate colors.
What are these factors?
Human Perception. The way a person sees color can vary, depending on the structure of a person?s eyes. This is particularly seen in the color blue. Color blindness is another factor. It can be very slight or quite severe.
Colors, when placed side by side, can make an impact on each other. This is better seen in reflection or visual illusion. Put into two colors alongside each other and you will notice that one or the other is taking in the color beside it.
Computer and Printing Technology. The average monitor has the tendency to show varying colors...

The average home computer user definitely does not need a laser printer. Sure laser printer prices have fallen considerably in the last couple of years. But have you look at the cost of laser toner? The average laser toner cartridge sells for over $100. The cost of replacement ink can really ad up on you. Cost of ink should not be the only factor that deters you from buying this kind of printer though.
Unless you are printing hundreds of pages each day you really don?t need a laser printer. Today?s inkjet printers have incredible print resolution, are very affordable, and replacement ink cartridges do not cost a lot.
