Ok, so you have decided to buy a new printer ! The old printer is getting "cranky" the print quality is down, and it is slow ! Here is what I would suggest that you do.
Sit down at the kitchen table or wherever with pen and paper or at the computer with notepad or a word processor.
Determine how many pages a day you will be printing.
If the number is over 8 pages a day and we are talking everyday toss all printers priced below $100.00 , these are "home class" printers and they will wear out quickly.
The inkjet printer market , because of the volume that is bought is one of the most "price-driven" markets in the computer industry.
There are many gimmicks used to lower the price of an inkjet printer, the two most prevalent
is durability and ink costs. The
ink costs means you toss all
HP and Lexmark printers.
HP and Lexmark both incorporate the print head into the cartridge. This allows both companies to "patent" the cartridge and that translates into high prices for ink cartridges.
If you are the only "ballgame" in town you can charge what you want for your ink cartridges !
It's true you can refill their empty cartridges but it is somewhat messy, time consuming, and limited.
It's limited because the empty cartridges can only be refilled so many times before the print quality starts going downhill and you have to purchase a new cartridge at $28.00 to $40.00 dollars a pop.
Concentrate on Canon and Epson. Both of these companies use a "tank system" for delivering ink.
I rate Canon ahead of Epson. Epson puts a chip on each cartridge to prevent you from refilling (it was originally a design scheme to make you buy their cartridges like HP and Lexmark).
Generic cartridge makers figured out a way around this but this also raises the price on generic cartridges since there is a cost to produce and attach a chip.
Ok, now we have determined printing volume, next figure out the uses, are we wanting to print out photo's ? If so the entry price for an inkjet printer is going to go up ! Many new inkjet printers feature 6 and 7 color printing by incorporating photo black, photo cyan, and photo magenta inks to improve "toning" on photo's. Don't get me wrong,
you can print a "photo quality" picture from a 4 color inkjet but it will not have the quality that the 6,7 and now 8 color photo printers can produce.
Other features on photo printers is Pict-bridge (only a memory card from a camera is necessary to print) and large print formats up to 13X19.
Beware The "All In Ones" Ever heard the term "Jack of all trades and master of none" ?
That is the way I would describe the multifunction printer/scanner/copiers/fax machines.
If you need a fax/copier and you have a space consideration then fine a low end multifunction machine might be for you but don't expect it to be a fast printer and don't expect the photo quality to approach a dedicated photo printer.

The Numbers In Colors
The Numbers In Colors
by: Florie Lyn Masarate
Printing companies sole purpose to properly execute any printing job that the customer has put into their hands. This would also mean getting it done without encountering any problems that might have aroused if done by these people themselves. The people get the printers to do the job for them; this includes thinking of the process needed in the printing job.
Color into prints is one of the major factors that printers should take into account. Not only that, with color printers and color printing companies catering to every needs, having an edge over the others is one thing that needs to be taken seriously. A bit of a consideration is needed in the process of color printing. One does not go about this without having basic and the needed knowledge to execute the right colors into prints. The number of colors are specified especially for those with a tight budget to keep up with.

All In One Printers ? Home Office Workhorses
All In One Printers ? Home Office Workhorses
by: Bill Smith
All in one printers, also known as multifunction printers (MFPs), are printers that also can copy, scan, and in some cases, fax. These machines perform all of these functions, generally using a single set of ink cartridges for both printing and copying. They are not much larger than stand-alone printers, making them a great tool for small home offices.
You can find an excellent all-on-one Epson printer for under $200 ? a steal if you ask me. Have you ever priced a copying machine? Good luck finding one for under $750. These little gems produce high quality printouts and color copies that are indistinguishable from the originals. You?d think that these machines would ?drink? ink ? I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is not the case. The copying process uses about the same quantity of ink as the printing process.
Most MFPs offer high resolution, photo-quality printouts without...

Discount Ink Cartridge, Toner Cartridge
Discount Ink Cartridge, Toner Cartridge
by: Kwan Lo
Economical and environmental concerns change consumers? buying pattern. Discount ink cartridges and toner cartridges invade the market of OEM cartridges.
Discount ink cartridges and toner cartridges are in great demand these days. Due to the drop in price, many families and small business owners can buy an inkjet / photo printer for under $100 and a discount laser printer for under $200. Increased number of printer ownership means that there is a larger aftermarket for printing supplies.
Nevertheless, consumers who bought a cheap printer would soon find out that their spending did not end there, but rather have just begun. For examples, many OEM laser toners are selling at $100 a piece, the same price of an inkjet printer or one-half of that for a discount laser printer. A family who print a lot of color photos with their photo printer can easily spend more than $100 on OEM ink cartridges...

Printing a Panorama at Home
Printing a Panorama at Home
by: Granny's Mettle
When you choose to print your photo panorama-style yourself, here are a few suggestions to help you:
You can use paper larger than your printer specs
The size of the paper depends on the size of the slot in the printer. For most home printers, this slot is limited to either the letter size width or slightly larger. Nevertheless, you have to take note that the letter size length is not limited though.
What one woman did was to buy a paper large than the standard size specified by her printer, then cut the paper so that the shorter part of the paper may be able to go through the slot of her printer, while keeping the longer edge full length.
There are also unusual paper sizes available in the market. And then just cut whatever size of paper you like. However, you have to check first that you can configure your printer settings to a custom paper size, as well as check that you can...
